Gold Humanism Honor Society (GHHS) is a national recognition given to select students each year who most demonstrate the characteristics of humanism in medicine through their exceptional bedside manner, patient interactions, and contributions to others. These students are often seen going the extra mile for patients and their fellow classmates. This distinct honor is one of only two honor societies recognized nationally through the Electronic Residency Application System (ERAS) used while applying to residency.
Students are invited into GHHS during their MS3 year of medical school after a class-wide nomination procedure, followed by selection of nominees by our Selection Committee. Once a member is inducted into GHHS, they are a member for life.
Our chapter of GHHS is entitled the 'Richard T. Sarkin Emeritus/Faculty Chapter of Gold Humanism' and is named after the late Richard T. Sarkin. In addition to having a medical student chapter, our University is one of few to also have a resident chapter of GHHS.
